France 11 – Bretagne – Baie d‘ Audierne 06.2014

Am Anfang der Baie de Audierne haben gings am Point du Millier spazieren. Von den Steilküsten in den Wald, wo sich diese alte Mühle befand. Zwischen dem Point du Van und dem Point du Raz liegt die Baie de Tresspases. Bekannt für kaltes Wasser, ertrunkene und viele in den Klippen brütende Vögel. In St. Tugen trafen wir einen meiner bekanten, Kevin, zufällig am Strand. Schön alte Bekannte zu treffen, zum heimischen Crepe Abend eingeladen zu werden und zusammen mit einem Freund surfen zu gehen. In St. Tugen gabs dann auch ne richtig gute Session über ein recht seichtes Reef.

At the beginig oft the Baie de Audierne we had a walk at the Point du Millier. A nice piece of coast, Forest and a old the water mill on the way. Between zhe point du van and the point du raz is the baie de tresspases. Known for cold wather, drown people and heaps of birds greeding in the cliffs. In St. Tugen we met an old buddy of me, Kevin, at the beach. Nice to meet an old buddy, get invited to an local crepe dinner, sitting in a living room and to go surf with a friend. In St. Tugen I had a nice session on a shallow lefthander rolling over a flat reef.

Erste Wellensichtung in der Finistere, aber immer noch zu klein für Erwachsene. Bei ziemlich miesem Wetter ging es weiter Richtung Brest. Schöne Ecke mit immer noch ziemlich viel Granitfelsen im Wasser. In Brest waren wir dann im Oceanapolis Aquarium, nenne wir es mal durch den Reiseführer überbewertet.

First sighting of waves in the Finistere area. But still to small for adults. By bad weather we drove along the stunning area in the direction of Brest. In Brest we visit the Oceanapolis aquarium, let’s call it overrated by our trip advisor book.

Alright, here is the last part of our trip.

After getting the knowledge of who is who and where are the nice places, the trip becomes more relaxed. We met some locals, had tea and food at their places and beaome friends with a few. Joining the local markets, buying the obligatory sari and some other nice stuff to bring home and to our friends and family. The surf becomes better and less crowded at the main point. And still some remote spots to surf and hang out. So many diffrent people from so many countries in the line up and arround was a nice experience. But as everywhere also dickh… arround. Ridiculous to pretty heavy to swallow. To relax and avoid another direct 400 k ride (8 – 9 hours) back to colombo, we rode to ella per tuktuk. At least i sleped in those tiny funny vehicles. Ella was very touristic but nice. Even the first breaky kothu was one of the best ever i had in sri lanka. Nice walks and views in the tea hills. It was cooler then the hot south east. At the last day we shared a taxi to colombo with a backbacker guy. At first we was in wonder why the driver always asks for the way, then we understood that he coudn´t read the signs. Actionaly we drove through the monsun, the first time for us and catch the flight home in time.

Sri Lanka – Arugam Bay Surftrip 08/2013 Part 2

The pictures are captured arround arugam bay. The southerly breathe was growing up pretty early, often before noon. So get out of bed earlier and surf the main point, a dead coral reef righthander or go by tuktuk ride to one of the remoter points. After we had breaky and chill in the hot hours. Rotis, pancakes, noddles, currys and fresh fruit juices or lassies, what a delicious life. There is a lot of wildlife arround. In the morning we spot far elephants, monkeys. And even at our place there were gekos, squirrels and heps of iguanas and other stuff. A lot of small fish i jumping in the surf and i spot some turtles.

Sri Lanka – Arugam Bay Surftrip 08/2013 Part 1

My girlfriend and myself heading through sri lanka for a 3 week summer holiday. After a long night at the Dubai airport and a long taxi drive throgh the island (included the first curry and rice, khottu and a crazy elephant expirience on the road) we arrived arugam bay.

Surf in the mornings and evenings (pretty crowded on a okish backhander) at the main point, relaxing between the hot hours by breaky, sometimes totaly brain overflowed by the culture surroundings we became friends with the bay.

The pictures are from our first days in arugam bay and a amazing safari in the kumana (yala) nationalpark.

Bretagne Easter – 04.2013

Easter 2013 – bretagne road / surf trip

The decision to go on a road trip in Europe on these cold spring days felt weird. But the forecast looking like still pumping swells and pretty much offshore. The first days was pretty nice and solid in the sets but shifting peaks and the strong curl takes the wave count down. By the way, under 10 C of water temperature doesn’t allow long sessions (and two stops by the local surf shop to by warm gear).

I stayed between crozon and the south end of the bay of audierne, mostly on the more consistent spots. Scored some waves, mostly once a day, reading, walking arround or to scenic places… I was pretty happy to travel with my own van (including heating system) again. There were flat and relay cold days and makes it a kind of mellow trip, the waves and swell wasn’t such perfect then I thought, but I have enjoyed it so much….

… how you wanna now that you are be alive, when you never was on a road trip…..

Portugal Xmas New Year Part 2 Ericeira, Lisboa

Portugal Surf Trip Xmas 2012 Part 2 Ericeira, Lisboa.

Nachdem die ständig pumpenden Winterswells etwas nachgelassen hatten, haben wir uns auf nach Ericeira gemacht. Gleich früh morgens gute Session abgestaubt, dann ab nach Lisboa. Nach etwas Verwirrung, wo in Lisboa wir eigentlich hin wollten, gings am Fuße der teils recht urbanen Altstadt langsam zurück zum Zentrum. Ein mal muß man den Berg in die Altstadt natürlich hoch, ich nehme mir jedes mal vor eine der schicken Trams zu nehmen, eine bica und stöbern im Kreativviertel.

Dann kamen auch schon die letzen Tage des Trips und ner Session in Coixos, welche ich fotografiert habe…

Portugal Xmas New Year 2012

Portugal Surf Trip Peniche Xmas 2012.

Um dem ganzen Weihnachtschaos zu entkommen und um nach diesem Jahr noch etwas Zeit an der Küste zu verbringen gings über Xmas und Neujahr für 2 Wochen, mit dem Flieger und einem gemieteten Womo nach Portugal. Das sind die Bilder der ersten Woche in Peniche. More will follow soon. (Lisboa, Ericeira…)

Indo – Jakarta / Sumatra

Nach ein paar geruhsammen letzten Tagen auf Java gings dann mit angfreundeten Portugiesen nach Jakarta, mit dem Ziel mein Visum zu verlängern. Nach 3 Tagen in der Megastadt hatte ich dann auch die Schnauze voll und bin weiter Richtung Sumatra. Intensive Eindrücke, viele Backpacker, komplizierte Amtsgänge… Leider gabs wegen des Ende des Ramadans keine Flüge mehr nach Sumatra, also ab in den Bus und mit der Fähre rüber auf die Nachbarinsel (über 20 Stunden, dann 6 Stunden mit dem Auto). Die ganze Ramadanendewoche war super viel los. Ich bin dann in ein Surfcamp bei Krui, eine lange nicht so perfekte linke direkt vor der Tür und viele andere Wellen mit dem Motorrad zu erreichen. Schöne intakte Riffe, perfekte Wellen, nette Leute, gutes Essen… Die erste Woche war aufgrund der vielen Indonesier die zum islamischen Neujahrsfest Urlaub gemacht haben etwas stressig. Alle wollten Bildern mit den weißen am Strand machen, das ging so weit das die Leute dafür angestanden sind. So klang der Trip dann aus. Und nach nem echten 3 Tägigen Horror Trip war ich dann auch schon wieder zu hause.
