El Salvador Surf Trip – Part 05 -El Tunco, Sourroundings- 08.2018

Nach dem toughen Surf in Las Flores ging es wieder zurück nach El Tunco. Lieb gewonnene Freunde und vor allem eine besondere Person treffen. Am Wochenende auch mal etwas feiern und danach wieder das gute Surferleben. Aufstehen wellen checken, surfen, früchstücken, siesta (las mejores siestas del mundo), surf in traumhaften Sonnenuntergängen (tuuubooos), leckeres Essen (Fisch-, Shrimptacos, Shrimpcocktails, Ceviches……) und Bier (Pilsener) auf der Straße oder in einer Bar. An einem Wellenlosen Tag ging es mit Freunden auf eine Rollertour, über die Berge nach Santa Elena um jemanden abzuholen, von da nach San Salvador um einen Burger (Mikeys) zu essen und schliesslich über La Liberdad nach Palmarcito um da an dem wunderschönen Strand entspannt Bier zu trinken.

Normalerweise tue ich so etwas nicht aber es liegt mir am Herzen. El Salvador ist ein wirklich schönes Land mit freundlichen, hilbfsbereiten Menschen. Für mich als Surfer fühlte es sich sehr sicher an. Ja man sieht Waffen die einen schützen sollen und es ist auch etwas passiert (ein Narco wurde in La Liberdad von der Polizei erschossen) als ich da war, aber wenn man sich wie in Zentralamerika üblich entsprechend Verhält wird man in so etwas nicht involviert. Ich wurde nie abgezogen, ausgetrickst, bedroht, beraubt oder ähnliches. Es ist ein tolles Land auf seinem Weg mit großartigen Wellen und Menschen.

After the tough Surf in Las Flores i went back to El Tunco. See cherished freinds and a very special Person. At the weekend i went to the nicghtlife abit, after go back to the good surfer life. Stand up, check the swell, surf, breakfast, siesta (las mejores siestas del mundo), surf in this beautiful sunsets (tuuubooos), nice Food (Fish-, Shrimptacos, Shrimpcocktails, Ceviches……) and beers (Pilsener) in the streets or in a a bar. On a waveless day i went on a rollertour with friends. Over the mountains to Santa Elena to pick one up, then to San Salvador to eat a supernice Burger (Mikeys) and finaly over La Liberdad to Palmarcito, to have a beer on that beautiful beach.

Normaly do not something like that, but its a heart thing for me. El Salvador is a very beautiful country with very freindly, helpful People. For me as a Surfer it felt very secure. Yes there are weapons to protect and something was happen when i was there (the police killed a narco in La Liberdad), but when you act like you are in central america, you won’t involved in something like that. I wasn’t ripped of, betrayed, tricked, robbed, threatened ore anything like that. Its a graet country on its way, with great waves and locals.

El Salvador Surf Trip – Part 01 – El Tunco – 07.2018

El Salvador, El Tunco Juli 2018
In diesem Sommer ging es arbeitsbedingt ziemlich Spontan nach El Salvador. Trotz etwas Bammel, was man so über das Land hört, buchte ich mir die Flugtickets und die erste Unterkunft in El Tunco, Costa del balsamo. El Tunco sind wohl die touristisch am besten erschlossenen Strände, mit vielen Unterkünften, Bars, Restaurats, Surfshop etc. Das erste was mir auffiel war wie freundlich die Menschen hier sind, immer am Lächeln. Von den Besuchern herscht ein bunter Mix aus Amerikanern, Brasilianer, Australier und ein paar Europäern, manche zum Surfen, manche aber auch nur so. Am Wochenende ist hier die Hölle los und auch die einheimischen kommen zu den Stränden und Partys. Kaltes Bier scheint hier zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit getrunken zu werdedn. Essen ist super lecker, neben den einheimischen Spezialitäten wie Pupusas, Fisch und Meeresfrüchte, Fleisch mit Zwiebeln aber auch Mexikanisch, Fast Food und alles mögliche, dauert eine Weile alles zu probieren. Gesurft bin ich die ersten Tage in Zunzal, ein vor allem Rechter Pointbreak, ziemlich Lang und Konsistent. Bei der entsprechenden Swellrichtung gehts aber auch mal links. Ziemlich Bedinerfreundlich in bis zu Kopfhohen Größe. Die letzten Tage war ich aufgrund fallenden Swells in la Bocana bzw in la Bocanita unterwegs, ein schneller Beachbreak, kann auch mal hollow werden. Der Vibe ist ziemlich entspannt, aufgrund der vielen Touristen aber nict unbedingt Aloha Felling. Meine Unterkunft ist einfach, aber erfüllt Ihren zweck. Von meinem sehr schönen Balkon, direkt am Fluss lassen sich viele Vögel beobachten und es gibt eine vielzahl an Schmetterlingen. Die Bilder sind ziemlich selbsterklärend. Morgen gehts weiter in ein Surfcamp Km61, nahe Km59. Bis jetzt fühle ich mich sehr sicher, habe keine Gangs, Gewalt oder ähnliches gesehen.

This year i headed, because of work, spontanious to El Salvador. I got a kind of fear, because there are a lot of bad stories abbout the country. I booked my flights and my first accomondation in El Tunco, Costa del Balsamo. El Tunco is the most touristic placce in El Salvador, with infrastructure like accomondations, bars, restaurants, a surfshop aso. The first thing was how friendly the people here are, always smiling. The visitors are a mix oh americans, brazilians, Australians and a couple of europeans, some to surf and some just to travel. At the weekend the locals coming to the beaches, for parties and its pretty crowded. drinking cold beer is a thing of every day and night time. Eating is super nice, next to local food like pupusas, seafood and onion meat they offer mexican, fast food and a lot of stuff, i need some time to taste all. The first day i surfed el Zunzal, a user freindly mainly right hand point break, with the wright swell direction there are also some lefts. The last days i surfed with less swell la Bocana and Bocanita, a fast beachbreak, sometimes hollow. The vibe is pretty relaxed, but with so many foreigers not realy aloha spirit. My accomondation is basic, but work for me. I got a nice balcony next to the river and spot a lot of birds and butterflies. The pictures are pretty much self explanatory. Tommorow i move to a surfcamp at km61, near km59. To this point i feel pretty safe, didn’t see gangs or violence or something like it.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Panama – Playa Morillo

After Santa Catalina i took a bus, over Santiago again, to Playa Morillo. A remote beachbreak behind Mariato, in the middle of nowhere, just a hostel and a beach. After a 2 nice and big days in Morillo (Ezikiel takken barrels at the fotos), the swell went to big and we drove to mariatos nice, clean, left pointbreaks and a a frame. After the big swell we surfed Morillio again, with one of the best international group ever. Not much to do at the beach as surf, eat, relaxe, read… Nice life.

Nach Santa Catalina nahm ich einen Bus, über Santiago, nach Morillo. Ein abgelegener Sandstrand hinter Mariato, inmitten von nichts, nur ein Hostel und der Strand. Nach 2 schönen und großen Tagen in Morillo (Rzikiel surft auf den Bildern eine Barell), wurden die Wellen so groß daß wir nach Mariato auseichen mussten, schöne, saubere, linke Point
breaks und ein A Frame. Nach dem die Wellen kleiner wurden surften wir wieder Morillo, mit einer der besten internationalen Truppe. Nicht viel zu tun, am Strand, als zu surfen, relaxen, lesen… Schönes Leben.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Panama – Santa Catalina

After a arround 15h trip, from south of Costa Rica, over boarder of Pasoa Canoa, per diferent busses, i reached panama. Te first week i stayed in Santa Catalina. I was lucky to surf la punta of Santa Catalina on my first day, arround head high. What a beautiful clean, without wind always bareling wave. After that i only surfed playa Estero, good beache, heaps of local kids. The panamenas are friendly and the weather in the so called winter and rain saison pretty nice. Santa Catalina is an more or less tourist place, a couple of surfers but more backpackers come here to snoorkel or scuba dive on the close island coiba. Its cheaper then back in Costa Rica, but for panama still a expensive place.

Nach einem ca 15 stündigem Bustrip vom Süden in Costa Rica, über die Grenze von Pasoa Canoa, bin ich in Panama angekommen. Die erste Woche in Santa Catalina. Am ersten Tag lief der Point con Santa Catalina, so Kopfhoch. Was eine schöne saubere Welle, immer am barreln. An den folgenden Tagen gabs nur Surf am Strand von Estero. Netter Beachbreak mit vielen lokalen Kids. Die panamenas sind sehr freundlich und das Wetter ist trotz der Regenzeit schön. Santa Catalina ist ein ziemlich touristischer Platz mit ein paar Surfern aber mehe Backpackern, welche zum Schnorcheln oder Flaschentauchen auf der nahegelägenen Insel Coiba kommen. Es ist viel billiger als in Costa Rica, aber immer noch ein tuerer Platz für Panama.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Costa Rica – Pavones – Part 2

So i was requested to write also in english, here we go.
These pictures are from my second week in Costa Rica, Pavones. I have a pretty good time here. Meet nice and interessting people, eat nice local food, have a good to very good surf… The nature and animals are incedible, i see nearly every day a new animal. To capture the surf in pavones is dificult, because i can’t take my camera with me. The rain seasson and not to save places near the beach are the reason. On the pictures are beaches, reefs and nature arround my accomidation Rancho Burica, near Punta Banca, just a 15 min drive from Pavones. The fisherman is Stan from Belgium, thanks for all the fish buddy. The Surf pic is the Pavones point, a awesome long left wave. Followed by the festival de tortugas (turtle festival) in Punta Banco. The last ones are a big whaterfall.

Die Bilder sind von meiner zweiten Woche in Costa Rica, Pavones. Ich habe hier eine gute Zeit. Treffe netteund interessante Leute, esse leckeres lokales Essen und habe meist guten bis sehr guten Surf…. Die Natur und die Tiere sind unbeschreiblich, ich sehe fast jeden Tag ein neues Tier. Den Surf in Paones zu fotografieren ist leider schwer, dir Regenzeit und nich all zu sichere Plätze für die Kamera in Pavones sind die Gründe dafür. Auf den Bildernsind Strände und Riffe rund um meine Unterkunft Rancho Burica, nur 15 min mit dem Auto von Pavones entfernt. Der Angler ist Stan aus Belgien, danke für all den Fisch mein Freund. Das Surf Bild ist der Pavones Point, eine unglaublich lange linke Welle. Dann kommt das Festival de Totugas (Schildköten Festival) in Punt Banco. Die letzten sinf vo einem Ausflug zu einem nah gelegenen Wasserfall.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Costa Rica – Pavones

Coata Rica – Pavones

Nach einem recht ruhigem Flug bin ich in San Jose, Costa Rica angekommen. Leider gab es zwischen Condor und der Lufthansa ein paar Abstimmungsprobleme, ein Surfboard blieb daher in Stuttgart. Ob ich überhupt mit einer Boardbag fliegen darf, erfuhr ich bei dem Boarding. Von San Jose ging es dann, nach meinem ersten mittelamerikanischen Frühstück mit einer kleinen Propellermaschine nach Golfito.
Von Golfito dann mit einem 4×4 „Taxi“ nach Pavones, im Süden Costa Ricas. Unterschlupf fand ich in der Rancho Burica, so zwischen Pazifikstrand und Jungle. In Costa Rica ist gerade Regenzeit, was aber nicht bedeutet dass es den ganzen Tag regnet. Zusätzlich ist noch La Nina, aber seit zwei Tagen scheint hier die Sonne. Es gießt aber wenn, dann heftig. Inklusive Gewittern.
Was mich neben dem Pazifik und dem Jungle am meisten beeindruckt sind die Ticos und Ticas, die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit und der Artenreichtum.

Marokko 09 – Source Bleu de Meski

Nachdem uns der Camping inkl. der almorgentlichen marrokanischen Boul-Spieler gut gefiel und wir in Meski noch einiges vorhatten, blieben wir noch ein paar Tage. Wir wurden auf einen Ausflug zu Nomaden eingeladen, welche ausserhalb der Stadt eine Ziegenherde hütet. Vom Camping aus ging es durch hübsch angelegte Gärten und über die kürzlich angelegte „Palmenbrücke“ in das alte Meski, eine eingefallene Kasbah. Freitags wurden wir zum freitaglichen Couscous eingeladen. Eine hübsche Oase und irgendwie fühlt sich Marokko hier manchmal ziemlich ursprünglich an.

Sri Lanka Arugam Bay – kumana nationalpark 08/2013

Sri Lanka – Arugam Bay Surftrip 08/2013 Part 1

My girlfriend and myself heading through sri lanka for a 3 week summer holiday. After a long night at the Dubai airport and a long taxi drive throgh the island (included the first curry and rice, khottu and a crazy elephant expirience on the road) we arrived arugam bay.

Surf in the mornings and evenings (pretty crowded on a okish backhander) at the main point, relaxing between the hot hours by breaky, sometimes totaly brain overflowed by the culture surroundings we became friends with the bay.

The pictures are from our first days in arugam bay and a amazing safari in the kumana (yala) nationalpark.

Indo – Jakarta / Sumatra

Nach ein paar geruhsammen letzten Tagen auf Java gings dann mit angfreundeten Portugiesen nach Jakarta, mit dem Ziel mein Visum zu verlängern. Nach 3 Tagen in der Megastadt hatte ich dann auch die Schnauze voll und bin weiter Richtung Sumatra. Intensive Eindrücke, viele Backpacker, komplizierte Amtsgänge… Leider gabs wegen des Ende des Ramadans keine Flüge mehr nach Sumatra, also ab in den Bus und mit der Fähre rüber auf die Nachbarinsel (über 20 Stunden, dann 6 Stunden mit dem Auto). Die ganze Ramadanendewoche war super viel los. Ich bin dann in ein Surfcamp bei Krui, eine lange nicht so perfekte linke direkt vor der Tür und viele andere Wellen mit dem Motorrad zu erreichen. Schöne intakte Riffe, perfekte Wellen, nette Leute, gutes Essen… Die erste Woche war aufgrund der vielen Indonesier die zum islamischen Neujahrsfest Urlaub gemacht haben etwas stressig. Alle wollten Bildern mit den weißen am Strand machen, das ging so weit das die Leute dafür angestanden sind. So klang der Trip dann aus. Und nach nem echten 3 Tägigen Horror Trip war ich dann auch schon wieder zu hause.
