El Salvador Surf Trip – Part 01 – El Tunco – 07.2018

In diesem Sommer ging es arbeitsbedingt ziemlich Spontan nach El Salvador. Trotz etwas Bammel, was man so über das Land hört, buchte ich mir die Flugtickets und die erste Unterkunft in El Tunco, Costa del balsamo. El Tunco sind wohl die touristisch am besten erschlossenen Strände, mit vielen Unterkünften, Bars, Restaurats, Surfshop etc. Das erste was mir auffiel war wie freundlich die Menschen hier sind, immer am Lächeln. Von den Besuchern herscht ein bunter Mix aus Amerikanern, Brasilianer, Australier und ein paar Europäern, manche zum Surfen, manche aber auch nur so. Am Wochenende ist hier die Hölle los und auch die einheimischen kommen zu den Stränden und Partys. Kaltes Bier scheint hier zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit getrunken zu werdedn. Essen ist super lecker, neben den einheimischen Spezialitäten wie Pupusas, Fisch und Meeresfrüchte, Fleisch mit Zwiebeln aber auch Mexikanisch, Fast Food und alles mögliche, dauert eine Weile alles zu probieren. Gesurft bin ich die ersten Tage in Zunzal, ein vor allem Rechter Pointbreak, ziemlich Lang und Konsistent. Bei der entsprechenden Swellrichtung gehts aber auch mal links. Ziemlich Bedinerfreundlich in bis zu Kopfhohen Größe. Die letzten Tage war ich aufgrund fallenden Swells in la Bocana bzw in la Bocanita unterwegs, ein schneller Beachbreak, kann auch mal hollow werden. Der Vibe ist ziemlich entspannt, aufgrund der vielen Touristen aber nict unbedingt Aloha Felling. Meine Unterkunft ist einfach, aber erfüllt Ihren zweck. Von meinem sehr schönen Balkon, direkt am Fluss lassen sich viele Vögel beobachten und es gibt eine vielzahl an Schmetterlingen. Die Bilder sind ziemlich selbsterklärend. Morgen gehts weiter in ein Surfcamp Km61, nahe Km59. Bis jetzt fühle ich mich sehr sicher, habe keine Gangs, Gewalt oder ähnliches gesehen.

This year i headed, because of work, spontanious to El Salvador. I got a kind of fear, because there are a lot of bad stories abbout the country. I booked my flights and my first accomondation in El Tunco, Costa del Balsamo. El Tunco is the most touristic placce in El Salvador, with infrastructure like accomondations, bars, restaurants, a surfshop aso. The first thing was how friendly the people here are, always smiling. The visitors are a mix oh americans, brazilians, Australians and a couple of europeans, some to surf and some just to travel. At the weekend the locals coming to the beaches, for parties and its pretty crowded. drinking cold beer is a thing of every day and night time. Eating is super nice, next to local food like pupusas, seafood and onion meat they offer mexican, fast food and a lot of stuff, i need some time to taste all. The first day i surfed el Zunzal, a user freindly mainly right hand point break, with the wright swell direction there are also some lefts. The last days i surfed with less swell la Bocana and Bocanita, a fast beachbreak, sometimes hollow. The vibe is pretty relaxed, but with so many foreigers not realy aloha spirit. My accomondation is basic, but work for me. I got a nice balcony next to the river and spot a lot of birds and butterflies. The pictures are pretty much self explanatory. Tommorow i move to a surfcamp at km61, near km59. To this point i feel pretty safe, didn’t see gangs or violence or something like it.

Frankreich – Bretange Mai 2018

Hier ein paar Impresionen von meinem Frühlings Bretagne Road Trip, Mai 2018.
In La Torche habe ich mich, bei bittere kälte mit einen Freund getroffen. Es wird die 2 Wochen definitiv Swell aber auch eine Menge Wind geben. Die ersten Bilder stammen aus der Baie de Audierne, nördlich von La Torche. Die ersten Wellen bekamen wir in Saint Tugen. Traumhaft sauber aber eine geringe Periode, was den Surf nicht einfach machte. Dann folgten sonnige, warme , fast Sommer Tage in La Palue, Crozon Halbinsel, mit gutem Surf. Schöne Ecke mit viel Natur und keltischer Kultur. Gutes Bier und dem üblichen Wahnsinn eins Surf Parkplatzes, dieses Jahr hat tatsächlich ein Lokal auf meinem mini Grill geparkt, bzw wir konnten Ihn darauf aufmerksamm machen und es ihm ausreden. Der zweite Teil, vor allem mit mehr Surfbildern folgt…

Here are a couple of impressions from my spring bretagne road trip, may 2018.
To meet a friend i drove first to La Torche. It was pretty cold. The forecast shows definitly swell, but also a lot of wind for the 2 weeks. The first pictures captured in the Baie de Audierne, north from La Torche. The first waves we caught in Saint Tugen. A nice and clean swell, but the low period makes the surf dificult. Then we got some sunny, warm, almost summer days in La Palue, crozon half island, with good surf. A nice corner with a lot of nature and celtic culture. Good bear and the good odd crazieness of a surf car park. These year a local was parkig on my mini bbq, but we showed him the trouble and got him down from the hot stuff… The second part will follow soon, with more surf pictures.

Portugal Peniche – Xmas New Year 2017 – Part2

In der zweiten Woche ging es recht durchwachsen zu, aber es hielt sich mit dem Wind zum Glück in Grenzen. Ich war nur 3 Tage nicht im Wasser, einer wegen müdem Rücken und an zwei nicht wegen Sturm. Die Stränd auf den Bildern sind Lagide, Almagreira, Molhe Leste und Supertubos.

In the second week the weather was mixed up, luckily without to much wind. I stayed dry only at three days, at one my back was to tired and to i missed because it was to stormy. The beaches on the pictures are Lagide, Almagreira, Mohle Leste und Supertubos.

Portugal Peniche – Xmas New Year 2017 – Part1

Ein paar Bilder und Imressionen von meiner Weihnachtsflucht an den Atlantik, Peniche, Portugal. Das Wetter ist wie jeden Winter ein Mix aus so ziemlich allem, der Atlantik üppig mit Swell versorgt. Es lässt sich jeden Tag eine Welle finden, wobei alles ziemlich am Maximum ist, die Power zu halten.

A couple of pictures and impressions from my Xmas escape to the atlantik, Peniche, Portugal. The weather is like all winters a mix of pretty everything, plenty of swell is deliverd to the atlantik. There is a wave to find every day, but the beaches and reefs struggle to hold the power.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Peru – Chicama

Chicama, Peru, the longest left breaking point break in the world. I spend a couple of nice days in chicama. Surfing the dying swell in small, but sometimes perfect conditions. Easy living in the surfer town of chicama.

Chicama, Peru der länsgte links brechende Welle auf der Welt. I hatte ein paar schöne Tage in Chicama. Zum Surfen gab es den sterbenden Swell in kleinen, manchmal aber perfekte Bedingungen. Entspanntes leben in der kleinen Surfer Stadt.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Peru – Pacasmayo

After all that surfing i was visiting Chiclayo over the weekend, to do something else. After that noisy city i take a bus to Pacasmayo, the first of this gigantus point breaks in peru. After 3 small to medium days the swell was picking up and i was sharing a boat with 3 brasilien guys. A new Expirience. Pacasmayo in a solid swell, steep takeoffs and endless walls for burning legs and the boat bring you back behinde the point, for the next.
The City itsellf its a old fisher town, nice food, not all to busy with surfing. But also not much to do.

Nach all dem gesurfe besuchte ich für ein Wochenende Chiclayo, um mal was anderes zu tun. Nach der lauten Stadt ging es mit dem Bus nach Pacasmayo, der ersten der gigantischen Pointbreaks in Peru. Nach 2 eher kleinen bis mittlegroßen Tagen zog der Swell dann an und ich teilte mir mit 3 Barsilianern ein Boot. Eine neue Erfahrung. Pacasmyao mit solidem Swell, steile take offs und diese endlosen Wände und das Boot bringt dich zurück hintern den Point, für die nächste.
Die Stadt ist ein alte Fischerstadt, gutes Essen, nicht all zu Surflastig. Aber auch nicht viel zu tun.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Ecuador- Galapagos

Galapagos, San Cristobal – Puerto Baquerizo Moreno

After the ecuadorian mainland i went for a week to the Galapagos Island San Cristobal, around 1000 kms in the pacific. It was cooler, so far in the ocean. I found an economic accomondation in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. To surf and snorkel i went most of the time to loberia, south of the island. A small stretch of beach between many lava rocks. Surf is pretty shallow and waves out of deep pacific, chalenging fun in a small swell. The animals are amazing and not realy shy. There are so many iguanas and seals, hard to dont fall over. Also many Birds and heaps of turtles in the wather. On the beach is no waste or rubbish, sad but a not common picture. I’ve got one of my best snorkeling session ever. The Island is pretty touristical and expensive. Without that expensive tours there is not much to do on San Cristobal, for that reason i went back to mainland after a week.

Nach dem Ecuadorianischem Festland bin ich für eine Woche auf die Galapagos Insel San Cristobal, um die 1000 km im Pazifik. So weit draussen im Pazifik war es dann etwas kühler. In Puerto Baquerizo Moreno fand ich eine einfache, bezahlbare Unterkunft. Zum Surfen und schnorcheln war ich die meiste Zeit in Loberia, ein auf der Insel südlich gelegener Strand zwischen den ganzen Lavabrocken. Das Riff zum Surfen ragt recht weit aus dem Wasser und die Wellen kommen aus dem tiefen ozean, herausfordernder Spaß, bei kleinem Swell. Die Tierwelt ist wirklich außergewöhnlich und recht zutraulich. Über die Echesen und Seehunde stolpert man förmlich, Seevögel und Darwinfinken finden sich auch reichlich. Ausserdem hat es jede menge Schildkröten im Wasser. Ich hatte eine meiner schönsten Schnorchelerfahrungen. Am Strand findet sich überhaupt kein Müll, ein traurigerweise seltener Anblick. Die Insel selber ist voll auf Touristen ausgelegt und recht teuer. Ausser den teuren Ausflügen gibt es leider nicht viel zu tun auf San Cristobal, weshalb ich nach einer Woche auch schon wieder zurück aufs Festland bin.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Ecuador- Mompiche

For the travel to Ecuador i’ve said goodbye to my beloved beach. With a Colectivo (panamerican, white minibus with fresh aircon and good soundsystem) and a bus to panama city. I planed to visit Colombia, but the pacific side of panama is hard to acces and way to comlicated. So i decide for Ecuador. From Panama City via plane to Quito. From Quito per bus to Atacames and on the next morning from Atacames to Mompiche, Esmeraldas. A small fishing town with a proper left pointbreak and a couple of beaches. I slept at Camping Maracumbo, quite a little outside the village, nice people. The difference to Central America: cooler and louder.
After some first surf in playa Negra we walked with our „guide“ Diego through a nice little river. On the next days there was some swell to surf la Punta. So many good surfing local kids who don’t care abbout rules on a point… At the weekend i’ve got some party with the other guys from our camp. Later there was a nice, real party in town.
To the last picure exist a story: a minig company grabbing the black, rich of titan, sand of playa Negra and the locals don’t like it. There is a lot of money to make and how the company get the license is questionable. There was a couple of rumors, the locals stop and blocked some trucks and unload the sand on the beach again.

Um nach Ecuador zu gelangen musste ich von meinem geliebten Strand Abschied nehmen und mit dem Colecitvo (panamerikanischer weisser Minibus mit eiskalt eingestellter Klimaanlage und gutem Soundsystem) und Bus nach Panama City. Erst wollte ich von da nach Kolumbien, aber der Pazifik ist dort kaum zugänglich und alles ziemich Kompliziert, deshalb die Entscheidung nach Ecuador. Von Panama City mit dem Flugzeug nach Quito. Von Quito mit dem Bus nach Atacames und am nächsten Tag weiter nach Mompiche, Esmeraldas. Ein kleines Fischerdorf mit linkem Pointbreak und ein paar Stränden drum herum. Meine Absteige war der Camping Maracumbo, ruhig am Ortsrand. Im Vergleich zu Mittelamerika fallen mir zwei Worte ein: kühler und lauter.
Nach dem ersten Surf in Playa Negra ging es am nächsten Tag auf Flusswandertour mit unserem ortskundigen „Guide“ Tiego. Die nächsten Tage war dann etwas Swell und ich surfte La Punta. So viele gute lokale surfkids. Regelen am Pointbreak?!? Am Wochenende war mit meinen Camping-Mitbewohnern Parrty angesagt, später gabs im Dorf dann noch ne richtige Feier mit Musik und allem.
Zum letzten Bild gibt es was zu sagen: eine Minengesellschaft trägt am Playa Negra den schwarzen, titanhaltigen Sand ab, was der lokalen Bevölkerung nicht gefällt. Es ist viel Geld im Spiel und wie die Gesellschaft an die Lizenz kam, fragwürdig. Es gab die ganze Woche gerangel, LKWs wurden blockiert und teils gezwungen den Sand wieder abzuladen.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Panama – Playa Morillo

After Santa Catalina i took a bus, over Santiago again, to Playa Morillo. A remote beachbreak behind Mariato, in the middle of nowhere, just a hostel and a beach. After a 2 nice and big days in Morillo (Ezikiel takken barrels at the fotos), the swell went to big and we drove to mariatos nice, clean, left pointbreaks and a a frame. After the big swell we surfed Morillio again, with one of the best international group ever. Not much to do at the beach as surf, eat, relaxe, read… Nice life.

Nach Santa Catalina nahm ich einen Bus, über Santiago, nach Morillo. Ein abgelegener Sandstrand hinter Mariato, inmitten von nichts, nur ein Hostel und der Strand. Nach 2 schönen und großen Tagen in Morillo (Rzikiel surft auf den Bildern eine Barell), wurden die Wellen so groß daß wir nach Mariato auseichen mussten, schöne, saubere, linke Point
breaks und ein A Frame. Nach dem die Wellen kleiner wurden surften wir wieder Morillo, mit einer der besten internationalen Truppe. Nicht viel zu tun, am Strand, als zu surfen, relaxen, lesen… Schönes Leben.

Middle- Southamericatrip Sommer 2017 – Panama – Santa Catalina

After a arround 15h trip, from south of Costa Rica, over boarder of Pasoa Canoa, per diferent busses, i reached panama. Te first week i stayed in Santa Catalina. I was lucky to surf la punta of Santa Catalina on my first day, arround head high. What a beautiful clean, without wind always bareling wave. After that i only surfed playa Estero, good beache, heaps of local kids. The panamenas are friendly and the weather in the so called winter and rain saison pretty nice. Santa Catalina is an more or less tourist place, a couple of surfers but more backpackers come here to snoorkel or scuba dive on the close island coiba. Its cheaper then back in Costa Rica, but for panama still a expensive place.

Nach einem ca 15 stündigem Bustrip vom Süden in Costa Rica, über die Grenze von Pasoa Canoa, bin ich in Panama angekommen. Die erste Woche in Santa Catalina. Am ersten Tag lief der Point con Santa Catalina, so Kopfhoch. Was eine schöne saubere Welle, immer am barreln. An den folgenden Tagen gabs nur Surf am Strand von Estero. Netter Beachbreak mit vielen lokalen Kids. Die panamenas sind sehr freundlich und das Wetter ist trotz der Regenzeit schön. Santa Catalina ist ein ziemlich touristischer Platz mit ein paar Surfern aber mehe Backpackern, welche zum Schnorcheln oder Flaschentauchen auf der nahegelägenen Insel Coiba kommen. Es ist viel billiger als in Costa Rica, aber immer noch ein tuerer Platz für Panama.
